Contact Sync

Contact sync helps mobile users keep Waveline inbox numbers available in the device contacts app so caller ID and dialing are more useful outside the web dashboard.

Before you begin

  • Install the mobile app.
  • Grant contacts permission on the device.
  • Make sure the relevant inboxes have primary phone numbers.

Where to find it

Mobile sync runs from the mobile app when contacts permission and Waveline account data are available.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the mobile app and sign in.
  2. Grant contacts permission when prompted by the operating system.
  3. Let the app sync your Waveline contacts and inboxes.
  4. The sync process reads inboxes available to the user.
  5. It fetches primary phone numbers for those inboxes.
  6. It creates, updates, or removes device contacts based on the current inbox list.

What happens next

  • On iOS, Waveline can maintain a contact group for synced entries.
  • On Android, grouping support is limited by the contact library, but contacts can still be created or updated.
  • Sync skips work when permission is not granted.

Best practices

  • Use recognizable inbox labels because they become contact display names.
  • Review synced contacts after major inbox or number changes.
  • Do not edit synced contacts manually if the app will overwrite them later.

Troubleshooting

  • If no contacts appear, check contact permission and whether the inbox has a primary number.
  • If stale contacts remain, sign out and back in or let the sync run after data refresh.
  • If a contact name is unclear, rename the inbox in Waveline.
