Getting started

Choose or Port a Number

Start with a new Waveline number or move an existing business number into Waveline. A number can become one team member's work line, a shared team line, or a routed business number once it is assigned to the right inbox.

Record buying a new number, then record the port dialog from portability check through final review.

Before you begin

  • Complete billing before buying a new number.
  • Create or choose the personal or shared inbox that should receive calls and messages for the number.
  • For SMS, prepare Trust Hub and campaign registration before depending on high-volume messaging.
  • For ports, gather current carrier account details, service address, authorized representative, optional PIN, notification emails, and a recent phone bill.

Where to find it

Go to Phone -> Numbers. Use Get a number to buy a new number or Port an existing number to start a port request.

Step-by-step

  1. To buy a number, search by area code or by digits or letters the number should contain.
  2. Optionally assign the number to a personal inbox or shared inbox before purchase so it can route immediately.
  3. To port, enter the existing number in E.164 format and run the portability check.
  4. If portable, choose the target port date. The dialog requires a future date and supports an optional time range.
  5. Enter notification emails, customer type, losing carrier account details, authorized representative information, and service address.
  6. Upload the requested document, such as a latest phone bill, then review and submit.

What happens next

  • New numbers appear in the numbers list after purchase.
  • Pending ports appear with their target date and current status until the port completes or is rejected.
  • A port request can be canceled only while the target port date is still in the future and the user has permission.

Best practices

  • Complete carrier registration before relying on SMS, especially if a port will make this your main business number.
  • Keep the current carrier service active until the port completes.
  • Make port information match the losing carrier bill exactly to reduce rejection risk.
  • Assign every active number to a personal inbox or shared team inbox.

Troubleshooting

  • If the number is not portable, check the reason shown by Waveline and contact the current carrier.
  • If upload fails, use PDF, JPG, or PNG under the displayed size limit.
  • If calls do not route after purchase or port completion, check inbox assignment and the published call flow.
