Getting started

Release a Number

Releasing a number removes it from your Waveline account, unassigns it from inboxes, and stops Waveline from handling calls and messages for that number.

Release carefully

Released numbers may become available to other customers or carriers. Treat this as a high-risk action and update public listings before confirming.

Before you begin

  • Make sure the number is no longer advertised, used in campaigns, or needed for customer replies.
  • Move important conversations or update customers before releasing.
  • Confirm you have phone number delete permission.

Where to find it

Open Phone -> Numbers, select the number detail page, and use the release or delete action.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Phone -> Numbers.
  2. Select the number that should be released.
  3. Review the label, description, assigned inbox, and usage.
  4. Choose the release or delete action.
  5. Confirm the warning dialog.
  6. Update any call flows, websites, ads, or signatures that referenced the number.

What happens next

  • The number is removed from the account and detached from its inbox.
  • Incoming calls and messages to that number stop routing through Waveline.
  • Released numbers may become available to others, so recovery is not guaranteed.

Troubleshooting

  • If the action is disabled, check phone number delete permission.
  • If calls still route, confirm the number was actually released and not only renamed.
  • If you released the wrong number, contact support immediately; recovery is not guaranteed.
