Phone basics
Deskphones and IP Phones
Waveline can route calls to SIP or deskphone endpoints for teams that prefer physical phones alongside web and mobile calling.
Before you begin
- An admin must configure the SIP or deskphone device for the user.
- The user must be part of the inbox or ring group that should ring the device.
- The network must allow SIP/TLS and media traffic required by the phone provider.
Where to find it
Admins manage phone devices from the dashboard Phone area. In ring group settings, users can have client/web-mobile and SIP/deskphone dial methods.
Step-by-step
- Create or select the deskphone device for the team member.
- Confirm the device is registered and reachable.
- Open the inbox ring group or call-flow Ring Users step.
- Add the team member and enable the SIP or deskphone dial method where available.
- Place an inbound test call and confirm the deskphone rings.
- Run an attended transfer test if deskphones will participate in handoffs.
What happens next
- A ring group counts each enabled dial method as a dial leg.
- Default ring groups enforce a maximum dial-leg count per group, so enabling both client and SIP for many users can hit the limit.
- SIP-originated transfers and mobile/SIP transfer paths are handled by the call routing layer.
Troubleshooting
- If the phone does not ring, check device registration, ring group dial method, user availability, and network rules.
- If only app devices ring, confirm SIP is enabled for that user in the ring group.
- If transfers behave unexpectedly, test blind and attended transfer paths separately.
