Opt-Out and Compliance
Texting customers requires consent, clear identity, and respect for opt-out requests. Waveline helps organize conversations, but the business is responsible for compliant messaging.
Compliance note
Carrier registration improves trust, but it does not replace your responsibility to collect consent, honor opt-outs, and send content that matches the registered use case.
Before you begin
- Complete Trust Hub and campaign registration before broad outbound SMS.
- Publish privacy policy and terms pages if your campaign requires them.
- Train teammates to recognize opt-out language and avoid texting people who asked to stop.
Where to find it
Manage compliance through Trust Hub, campaign registration, conversation review, and your internal messaging process.
Step-by-step
- Collect opt-in consent before sending customer messages.
- Use campaign descriptions and message samples that match real use.
- Include help and opt-out expectations in your registration details.
- Honor STOP, unsubscribe-style, or direct requests not to receive texts.
- Keep content aligned to the registered campaign use case.
- Review failed or filtered messages for patterns.
What happens next
- U.S. carriers can filter or block messages that are unregistered, unwanted, deceptive, or unrelated to the approved use case.
- Recipients who opt out should not receive further marketing or operational SMS unless they opt back in through an allowed process.
- Campaign review and carrier rules can change, so keep business and policy links current.
Best practices
- Use your real business name in messages when the recipient may not recognize the number.
- Avoid link shorteners, misleading urgency, prohibited content, and purchased lists.
- Keep proof of consent outside Waveline if your compliance process requires it.
Troubleshooting
- If messages are filtered, check campaign status, content, links, and recipient consent.
- If a customer says they opted out, stop texting and review the thread.
- If registration is rejected, update business details, opt-in language, policy links, or samples based on the rejection reason.
